Geraldine Cooke

In a wide-ranging career in publishing, Geraldine Cooke has been a bookseller, a publicist, an editor and publisher, and a writer.  She joined the Marsh Agency as an agent in 2004.

She began her career at Penguin where she published many bestsellers and prize-winning authors right across the field. Among her authors as Executive Editor were, Ruth Rendell, John Mortimer, Colin Thubron, Angela Carter, Beryl Bainbridge, Alasdair Gray, and Shirley Conran. She published the perennial book by Alan Carr, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking and the Fighting Fantasy series for children. She ran the Penguin crime imprint and still holds the record for the fastest mass-market paperback book published and sold world-wide (two days) for: The Commonwealth report: Mission to South Africa, which was significant in the release of Nelson Mandela.

She was founder and Publisher of the literary imprint Review (Headline); among the bestselling authors published by her there were: Andrea Levy, Maggie O'Farrell, Ronan Bennett, Jennifer Johnston, Susie Boyt, Suketu Mehta.

As an agent she specializes in Scottish, Irish, Indian, African and Commonwealth writers, literary fiction and non-fiction and high quality commercial fiction, narrative non-fiction and memoir.
